20. How To Write A Media Script


Fade In: The very first item on the first page should be these words. This is a starting point which shows the editing transition for how the film starts and should also be in capital letters


Scene Heading: A one line description of the location and time of day of a scene. It tells us whether it is inside or outside, where it is like a shop or school and should also be in capital letters. It is also known as a slugline. 


Action: The narrative description of the events of a scene. Written in the present tense. 


Transition: Film editing instructions.


Characters First Appearance: A description of the character - name should always be in capital letters.

Character: A characters name always appears above their dialogue.

Dialogue: Lines of speech for each character. This format is used anytime a character is heard speaking, even off-screen and voice-overs.
